While I do not consider myself to be an amateur speleologist, I do enjoy large natural caves for their beauty and their particular acoustics.
Between 2001 and 2008, I made a series of recordings in various subterranean spaces, focusing particularly on caves with underground rivers.
I setup loudspeakers and playback equipment in these natural acoustic environments, then played back various field recordings, electronic and electroacoustic sounds --recording the resulting interplay and natural reverberation.
In 2010, I drew from these recordings to make a gigantic collage which became, after much editing, the album Mineral Abstraction.
Recordings sites (France) : Pit of Cabrespine (Aude), Cave of Choranche (Isère), Cave of Foissac (Aveyron), Cave of Labeil (Hérault), Pit of Padirac (Lot).
